heartbreak

My favorite children's book of all time is being made into a movie. I can't even say that I am surprised, frankly I thought they would have done it by now. The heartbreaking part of this is how they have completely destroyed the integrity of the story and art in the book. Yes, I am THIS passionate about a children's book. "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs" reflects the best of imaginative writing and personal expression through visual art. To reduce it to some glossy, over-engineered version of a faux-pixar animation film and then to gut and re-engineer the story is, at best, nauseating. Here is the official movie website brought to you courtesy of Sony Pictures and Columbia pictures: http://www.cloudywithachanceofmeatballs.com/

I am sickened, saddened and depressed that a new generation of children will be subjected to this watered-down, yet Red-Bull-infused version of such an incredible story.

Blechk.

They're doing this to my favorite childhood book (Where the Wild Things Are), too. But at least Speilberg is doing it. It kind of looks amazing.

Also, they're remaking The NeverEnding Story and Drop Dead Fred. Neither of which need to be remade. Imagine what The NeverEnding Story might be like if Falcor were actually a dragon instead of a flying dog with white corn on his back...it's just too weird.
